Merits - Week 2 Term 3
Letter from the Principal - Brad Toole
Dear Parents,
Tomorrow is a very important day on the Calendar for Catholic people in Australia. We celebrate the Feast Day of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.
Our school will celebrate with a special liturgy organised by Mrs Buckle, Mrs Stokes and Year 4 tomorrow at 12.30pm in the school hall.
Parents and Friends are invited to stay with the children for lunch on the playground after liturgy.
R.E. MATTERS - Walking in the Light
Feast of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop- Australia’s First Saint, 8th August
Mary Helen MacKillop (15 January 1842 - 8 August 1909), also known as Saint Mary of the Cross, was an Australian Roman Catholic nun who, founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart.
Mary MacKillop was a woman of prayer. She turned to God in times of need, but also to praise and thank God.
On Thursday, Yr 4 will lead our school community in a beautiful liturgy for the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop – First Saint of Australia and founder of the Sisters of St Joseph.
As a ‘Josephite’ school, Mary MacKillop is a wonderful role model to us all. We strive each day to live by the words of Mary MacKillop – This is evident each and every day at All Hallows – students helping each other on the playground, teachers and students working together in class, individuals picking up rubbish at the end of breaks, class captains running errands and Yr 6 doing jobs around the school at the end of each day are just some of the many examples we show our desire to be like Mary MacKillop.
On this special day each year we also remember our dear ‘Joeys nuns’. We send flowers from the school community so they would know we are remembering them as an important link to St Mary for All Hallows Catholic School today.
“Always remember to love one another.” (Mary MacKillop - 1888)
Have you seen our beautiful St Mary of the Cross MacKillop Mural?
The mural design commemorates the Sisters of St Joseph beginning their work educating children in Gulgong.
Last year, All Hallows Catholic School celebrated the 140 year anniversary of our school.
A huge thankyou to artist Belinda Davies for her work. We absolutely love it!
FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY INTO HEAVEN - 15th August
On Friday 15 th August, the school and Parish community will come together to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. On this feast of Mary we celebrate a special favour that God gave to Mary, our Mother.
The Assumption means that Mary was taken up into the glory of heaven, not only with her soul, but also with her body. As we celebrate the feast day of Mary, we can ask our Blessed Mother Mary to guide, protect and care for us.
Please join us at Mass on Friday 15th August at 9.10am
Soccer Gala Day
On Friday we will have approximately 75 students and 8 staff members attending the St Laurence's Dubbo Soccer Gala Day. It will be a great day and we are looking forward to competing against other schools from our area.
The Gala Day will be held at Lady Cutler Ovals Bligh St. Dubbo.
TRAVEL: We will be travelling by bus to Dubbo. The buses will be leaving at 7.00am and will NOT be back in time for the afternoon buses. We expect to return to school at 4.45pm.
UNIFORM: Players will wear their sports uniform on this day.
Shin pads must be worn by all players. The school has a supply of shin pads that may be borrowed by those students that need them. If your child would normally wear a mouth guard, they should bring this on the day.
Players must wear joggers only. The wearing of football boots is not allowed.

Please wear sunscreen and their school hat throughout the day.
FOOD: Players will need to have a packed recess and lunch, as well as at least two drink bottles of water.

Garden Club News
This week in Garden Club we cleaned our minibeasts water containers ready for our thirsty insects. We gave our garden beds some extra love with a top up of compost. We mixed the compost in with the leafy mulch that was sitting on top of our garden beds acting like a blanket for the winter. We were excited to see so many worms of all sizes in our garden, proving what healthy soil we have! We planted some more flowers and carrots to enjoy later on in the season. Thanks for all the hard work Garden Clubbers, the extra effort we put in now will show us results when we are ready to harvest!
Happy gardening, Miss Norris and Mrs Watts
