2025 Newsletter Term 2 Week 5
Letter from the Principal - Brad Toole

Monday was National Sorry Day. National Sorry Day is an Australia-wide observance held on May 26 each year. This day gives people the chance to come together and share the steps towards healing for the Stolen Generations, their families and communities. It is important for us to remember our history which will allow us to move forward in reconciliation with one another.

Reconciliation Week
This week is Reconciliation Week, and it is a time for us to come together as a Catholic school to reflect, learn, and actively promote healing and unity among all Australians.
Reconciliation Week, observed annually from May 27th to June 3rd, holds immense importance for us as a nation as we strive to build respectful relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
This week provides us with an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It prompts us to reflect on our shared history and work towards a more harmonious and just society.
The theme for Reconciliation Week 2025 is "Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.
Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.
As a school community, we are committed to fostering a spirit of inclusivity, respect, and understanding. Reconciliation Week provides an ideal platform for us to deepen our understanding of the rich Indigenous cultures that form an integral part of our national identity.
Together, let us recognize the past, acknowledge the present, and work hand in hand to build a future where reconciliation is a lived reality for all Australians.

Ascension of Jesus
This week we will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension.
According to the New Testament in the Bible, Jesus met several times with his disciples during the 40 days after his resurrection (Easter Sunday) to instruct them on how to carry out his teachings.
Ascension Thursday marks the end of the Easter season and occurs ten days before Pentecost, when the disciples received The Holy Spirit.
The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord commemorates Jesus’ ascension into Heaven. Historically, this holy day has been celebrated 40 days after Easter Sunday – the Thursday in the sixth week of Easter. It is believed that on the 40th day he took them to the Mount of Olives, where they watched as he ascended to heaven.

Henry Lawson Festival
As a school we are looking forward to participating in the upcoming Henry Lawson Festival. As a school we will be joining in the Parade at 12 noon on Saturday 7th June. We are asking all students and staff that are present in town to come and join us in the parade.
We will be dressing as people from the goldrush and marching as a school group. Students will need to wear jeans, check shirts and olden style hats/cowboy hats or colonial clothes and meet at 11.40am at the Bowling Club carpark. These details will be confirmed in the week prior to the long weekend.
Volunteers needed
On Saturday our P&F will be running a BBQ/Street stall outside IGA. This is the major fundraising event for the year. Attached to this note is the helpers sheet. If you're free and can volunteer a few hours your help would be greatly appreciated. You just need to send your form back or let Carolyn or Bec know in the office.
If you are unable to help in person, we are also asking for cake or slice donations to sell at our stall with the raffle. Donations will be collected on Friday afternoon in the canteen. If any donations could be cut and organised into packages/plates to sell that would be fantastic please. Please also provide an ingredients list please. We appreciate your support!!!
